Full Text

Cambria County has always been fortunate in her local government. Although she was subjected to a heavy expense in defending against injunctions in regard to her jail, which the Commissioners were compelled to build by the decision of the Grand Jury and the instruction of the Court, the building was finished at less than the contract price, and every citizen is proud that we have a building sufficient to secure every criminal and at the same time serve as an ornament and credit to the county. Other counties have not been so fortunate. The radical county of Blair erected a jail building near about the same time. The contract was lower than the Cambria jail, but it cost her over $25,000 more than our jail building. The radical county of Indiana, (the strongest radical county in the State,) built a Court House at the same time. The contract was $115,000, but it cost over $175,000, and, besides, some $30,000 of the bonds were stolen by radical office-holders. We just cite these adjoining radical counties as 'specimen bricks,' to set off against the abuse of faithful officers in Cambria county.
