Full Text

A Theft.—While officers Seal and Jenkins were on the lookout for thieves in Screamersville yesterday morning, about daylight, they nabbed a negro named Henry, who was returning to his shanty with a large basket of apples which he had evidently just stolen. On searching his house, which was close by they found a half bushel of onions, worth in market $5. They brought him, onions and apples, before the Mayor, who, finding that the negro belonged to a relative of his, evinced a strong disposition to turn him loose; said he would see the negro's owner after court, and continued the case.
