On Saturday a man, who appeared to be a petty officer of a ship, applied to two King's officers at Deptford, and gave them information of a waggon that was coming from Kent, loaded with sacks of charcoal, wherein were concealed India chintz, silks, &c. to a considerable value, for which notice they made him a present of two guineas. The waggon was accordingly stopped, near Peckham Gap, and unloaded, but no such goods were found. The master waggoner obliged the officers to pay for unloading and reloading the waggon, and has besides brought an action against them for a trespass.
