Representatives of 23 collegiate schools of nursing in the south will meet in Atlanta Tuesday and Wednesday (April 15 and 16) to discuss action on recommendation of a regional committee for increasing the number of nurses and improving their training.
Four of the nation's outstanding foundations interested in health are sending representatives to the conference: the Rockefeller Foundation, the Russell Sage Foundation, the Commonwealth Fund and the W. K. Kellogg Foundation.
Julia Miller, Executive Secretary of the National League of Nursing Education, New York, also will participate. She formerly was Dean of the Emory University School of Nursing.
The meeting is sponsored by the Southern Regional Education Board. Last fall a Committee on Nursing Education made up of 17 men and women was named by the Board to initiate action by the 14 states in the regional compact on a program aimed at the South's critical need for nurses.
The representatives of the collegiate schools of nursing will discuss steps necessary for putting the Committee's recommendations into effect.
