At a meeting of the Just Government League held on Tuesday, November 1, the following resolution was passed and the Secretary was instructed to forward copies of the resolution to the Board of Estimates:
Whereas, it has been noted that Baltimore stands 224th in a list of 230 cities of over 100,000, in the amount used for schools in proportion to the amount of taxes expended; and,
Whereas, the Just Government League believes that adequate funds should be available to make the public schools of Baltimore stand among the best in the country, instead of among the poorest; therefore,
Be it Resolved, that on such an important question as this budget for better schools, the members of the Just Government League as taxpayers hereby go on record as recommending that the full amount of the budget be granted, even though it increase the tax rate, which would seem by no means a certainty.
Be it Resolved further, that the Just Government League requests the Board of Estimates to appoint a date for a hearing for those who wish to advocate that the full amount of the budget be granted the School Board.
