Mayfair, Superior School Yards In For Renovations

School yards at Mayfair and Superior elementary schools will be improved this summer, announces N. F. Leist, assistant to the superintendent. The estimated cost is about $6,000 each.

The present driveway to the left of the Mayfair building passes a doorway. This is to be eliminated as a safety measure and the area blacktopped for playground use. A new driveway, with parking, will be built to the right of the building.

A 35-foot strip along Bardwell and Doan aves., to the side and rear, is to be blacktopped and given to playground use for the larger children. The balance of the area to the rear will then provide a baseball field, the backstop to be in the northwest corner. Added space to the rear has been made available through the razing of an old dwelling on that part of the lot.

A new look is in store for the frontage along Superior ave. at Superior School. It is planned to erect a four-foot wall for a distance of 35 feet from the northeast corner south. The balance of the frontage will be graded to a gradual slope and resodded to the entrance way. From the entrance way, south, a new fence will be erected to join up with the fence along Lambert st.

The area from the side entrance on Lambert to the rear driveway will be blacktopped. The area on either side and the rear of the old gym section of the building is to be blacktopped for a 35-foot width and a new basketball court made in this space, which will also provide a playground space.

The most expensive item in the Superior improvement program will be laying of a sewer to drain the lot from the rear through to Superior rd. The area to the rear and facing Garfield rd. will be re-graded.
