TERRITORY SALOONS.

Muskogee, I. T., August 15—Indian Agent Bennett went to Ardmore, I. T. yesterday to confiscate and destroy a carload of beer received at that place by a saloon keeper, since Judge Bryant's decision that the sale of that beverage was not prohibited in the territory. Judge Shackleford stated today that he had heretofore, and now holds that the intent of the law was to prohibit the sale of intoxicants in the territory, and that the sale of beer was not, in his opinion, excepted. As this court has concurrent jurisdiction with the Paris and Fort Smith courts, the beer saloons recently set up will have a rough road to travel, notwithstanding Judge Bryant's opinion.

Event Details

Indian Agent Bennett went to Ardmore to confiscate and destroy a carload of beer received by a saloon keeper following Judge Bryant's decision that beer sales were not prohibited. Judge Shackleford holds that the law prohibits all intoxicants including beer, and his court has concurrent jurisdiction with Paris and Fort Smith courts, making it difficult for new beer saloons.
