MAY FIGHT G. B. SMITH
Al Palzer.
New York, April 17. Al Palzer, returning to America from France, has thrown quite a commotion into the hitherto calm ranks of heavyweight boxers. He had expected to meet Jack Johnson in Paris, but the "big smoke" flunked out and left Al without a scrap. Al consequently is more than ordinarily anxious for someone on whom to practice the gentle art of fisticuffs.
Gunboat Smith, he who recently put the kibosh on that ambitious but misdirected Britisher, Bombardier Wells, is mentioned as the next lamb marked out for slaughter by Palzer. Gunboat, a prudent man, for all his aggressiveness in battling may be naturally apprehensive of Palzer's advantage in weight. Still, he cannot be ignorant of the probability of a $20,000 house for such a fight in New York.
If Palzer should whip Smith decisively, there is no doubt that McCarey, boss prize fight promoter of the west, would arrange a bout between him and Luther McCarty for the white heavyweight championship on the coast.
