MANSFIELD, O., Oct. 25, 1855.

Ed. Gazette:—

The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio, convened in this place on Tuesday last.

Present:-

M. W. Wm. B. Dodds, Grand Master;

R. W. B. F. Smith, D. G. Master;

M. D. Brock, S. W. Warden;

B. S. Kyle, J. G. Warden;

L. Jewett, G. Treasurer;

J. D. Cartmell, Grand Sec'y;

S. Gould, Grand Orator;

Zachariah Connell, G. Chaplain;

Jos. B. Covert, Grand Tyler:

together with the other appointed officers, and about four hundred delegates. So far the business of the Grand Lodge has passed off smoothly. Mansfield is a much larger place than Lancaster, and boasts of her great men, but is far behind Lancaster for beauty of scenery.

The citizens here have just erected a very fine building for a Female Seminary, at a cost of not less than twenty thousand dollars. It was dedicated to-day. E. Thompson, D. D. of Delaware, delivered the dedicatory address. Mr. Thompson is an interesting speaker. This evening John G. Saxe, of Vermont, read a poem. His subject was New England. He described Yankee dom admirably. I have had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of T. H. Ford, our Lieut. Governor elect, Frank Wright, Auditor elect, and Jacob Brinkerhoff, Supreme Judge elect; and I have no hesitancy in saying that three nobler fellows could not be found in Ohio. The republican and American parties may well be proud of such men.

Old winter stuck her cold nose in upon us on Tuesday morning, and the ground has been covered with snow nearly all the time since, and at this time there is quite a demand for over-coats and shawls.

The Grand Lodge has elected their old officers to serve the ensuing year, with the exception of L. Jewett. F. J. Phillips, of Cincinnati, was elected in his place as Grand Treasurer.

The next communication of the Grand Lodge is to be in Zanesville, on the 3rd Tuesday (21st) of next October.

In haste,

M. D.
