Well folks, both Post and Second District adopted Resolutions for full time representation at the Veterans' Bureau. That's the first step in the right direction, but let's not stop until we get it.
Comrade G. Parkhouse obligated his brother at our last meeting. Our new "Parkey" has spent many months in New Guinea, having crossed the Owen Stanley Mountains and was in on the Buna and Guna scraps. We believe that this was the first time in Seattle that brother has obligated brother into the V.F.W. I think we were all as happy about it as the Brothers Parkhouse were.
There were pictures by Jack Savidge, so if you missed them, as too darn many of you did, Jack may show us the pictures again sometime.
Owing to the fact that our members are either away or working, Maynard Keltner was given full authority to dispose of our interests in the Church, to the best advantage. Maynard wishes to extend his personal thanks to the comrades who have helped him in this undertaking. It was a big job, too big for just a few of them to handle. At this time it might be well for the Post membership to give a thought to comrades like Maynard Keltner, for without his kind there would be no Ballard Post, in fact no V.F.W. I don't know what church, if any, Maynard Keltner attends, but I do know that the first articles in his religion are comradeship and Veteranism.
Rainier Post visited us at our last meeting. It seems that they had misplaced some of their post property and were looking for it. Parky couldn't help them, but we hope they enjoyed our meeting as much as we enjoyed having them. Blackburn, Eagleson, Fort Lawton and Aurora Posts were also represented.
Thursday, the 16th, the regular order will be suspended, and a Post party staged. Will report on it in the next issue.
Don't miss our New Year's Eve Party. $1.75 per person for the best New Year's celebration in the city. It will be in the Odd Fellows Upper Hall. Send in your reservations now. Bigger and better than ever, and that's something! Contact "Parky" for your party table.
J.J. back in print again with a boast for the "Ivory" Post, (which we subscribe to), and thinly veiled threat against your scribe. Sure, Jimmy. I'll lay off you (until the next time).
The Second District took action on "Discharge Pay" for the Vets of this war and wired our representatives, asking for legislation in their favor at once.
Nothing is too good for these Vets. We at least got 60 bucks, many of them have been discharged with only a month's pay. History repeats. Would personally like to see our lawmakers go payless until the last one of them is home.
