John, V., 31st." The Bien Public observes upon the letter of the Munich scholar, that it is simply a declaration of "Dr. Dollinger's infallibility against the infallibility of the Church."
We regret that this gentleman did not continue his quotations from the Gospel of St. John, which he uses, like a skilful Protestant, to confound the Pope. He would have found in the 5th chapter the following words: "The Pharisees therefore said unto Him, Thou bearest testimony of Thyself; Thy testimony is not true. Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear testimony of myself, yet my testimony is true," and then he added words which demand more earnest attention than they are likely to receive from men who scoff at the successor of St. Peter, "For I know whence I came, and whither I go, but you cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go."
