Body Riddled With Bullets,
Man Is Admitted To Grady

BY JOEL W. SMITH

A 25-year-old man was admitted to Grady Hospital early Saturday morning with his body riddled with bullets. City Detectives M. W. Blackwell and J. W. Ellington, who took over the investigation, were unable to interview him as he was undergoing an emergency operation.

According to a hospital official his condition was "fair" late Saturday afternoon.
Patrolmen J. H. Wallace and T. C. Kennon, who made the initial investigation, identified the victim as DeWitt Young, of 638 Larkin Street, S. W., Apt. 587.

SHOT FOUR TIMES
The officers reported that Young had been shot four times, with bullets penetrating one leg, his back, side and rectum.
Patrolmen Wallace and Kennon talked to the victim and two witnesses briefly at the Emergency Clinic at Grady Hospital around 2:30 a. m., Saturday and quoted them as saying the perpetrator shot him once and after he fell stood over him and pumped three more bullets into his body.

ELEMENTS OF MYSTERY
There seems to be an element of mystery surrounding the shooting which city detectives hope to clear up Monday.
According to the police report, the victim and witnesses told Patrolmen Wallace and Kennon that the perpetrator had been drinking and when they were trying to carry him home when he became angry and started shooting.
The perpetrator had left and could not be apprehended when Officers Wallace and Kennon went to the scene of the crime.
