To New Zealand and Australia.
Messrs. W. A. Redmond, M. P.; R. Hazleton, M. P., and J T. Donovan, solicitor, Belfast, left Plymouth on Saturday for New Zealand and Australia on their mission on behalf of the Irish party. Mr. Redmond, to an interviewer, laughingly said: "You see it is not the American dollar we are after this time. We are going out to British dominions, and we hope to collect a good many English sovereigns for the support of the Irish cause." The Government, he said, were pledged to full self-government for Ireland in all purely Irish affairs, which was all that Parnell and the Irish party from that day to this has claimed or asked for.
Mr. Hazleton said they were encouraged in their mission because they realized that the day was at hand when the cause of Ireland would be triumphant. "We know," he continued, "that the Colonies sympathize with the aspirations and aims of the Irish leaders, and that the sympathy is not restricted to our own people in Australia and New Zealand. It is shared by all classes, all creeds, and all nationalities—I mean English, Scotch, and Welsh as well as Irish."
