Full Text

An Indianapolis special to the New York Times says of Blaine's dismissal of his libel suit: The Republicans regard the reasons given by Blaine as sufficient to warrant the dismissal, and they seem to think that he could not afford to become interminable. Some of them admit that the beginning of the suit was a mistake on his part, but the opinion was privately expressed by prominent lawyers, that the case could not be successfully prosecuted, for while they believe the Sentinel's articles are an atrocious libel, they readily saw that the irregularities of the marriage, according to the plaintiff's own statement, would be sufficient to confuse a jury and render it almost impossible for them to render a verdict in Blaine's favor. The better element of the Democracy, despite Blaine's assertion that none could be found who would take sides against the party organ, have freely expressed their disapproval of the Sentinel's course.
