The First Law.

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt., Feb. 10.-

During the examination by the railroad commissioners Polly Arel testified that there were eighteen men, seven women and two small boys in the second passenger car where she was. The motion of the car when the accident occurred was forward and back, not lateral. The car did not turn over as it fell. Miss Arel was able to help herself, and was getting through a window when a man under her pulled her back, saying:

"Let me get out first, and I'll help you out."

He pushed her away and got out and ran away without helping her. She was finally assisted out by train men. She was imprisoned fifteen minutes in the burning wreck.
