Three Fliers Die In B-24 Crash

TUCSON, Ariz., July 15. (UP)-

Three crew members of a B-24 Liberator bomber were killed and nine others parachuted to safety when their plane crashed 17 miles north of Shaver's Summit near Palm Springs, California. Col. C. K. Rich, commandant at Davis-Monthan field announced Saturday.

The dead:
Second Lieutenant Sidney L. Smith, 21, pilot, Clovis, California;
Second Lieutenant William C. Newbold, 23, co-pilot, Chicago, Illinois;
Second Lieutenant Thomas M. Broderick, 22, navigator, Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

The accident occurred Friday. A board of officers has been appointed to investigate the crash. The bomber had been stationed at Davis-Monthan field.
