Medill McCormick, congressman at large from the state of Illinois, who is visiting the American expeditionary force in France, had a narrow escape from serious injury from the explosion of a trench bomb which was thrown inadvertently in his direction by a soldier practicing war maneuvers. Mr. McCormick was following closely at the heels of a squad of trench "cleaners" when the bomb exploded almost at his feet, throwing stones and earth about him.
