Des Moines, July 15.—Stymest Stevenson of Council Bluffs has been elected grand master of the Odd Fellows of Iowa. Grand Secretary R. L. Tilton of Des Moines, himself re-elected, made the announcement yesterday. Mr. Stevenson becomes head of the Iowa Odd Fellows at the next grand lodge session in Council Bluffs on October 20, succeeding Grand Master H. C. Ring of Cedar Rapids. Besides again being chosen grand secretary of the grand lodge of Iowa, Mr. Tilton was reelected grand scribe of the grand encampment of Iowa. Mr. Tilton had no opposition for the latter position and was the winner in a field of three, L. W. Smith of Des Moines being one, for the grand secretaryship. Approximately 3,800 votes were cast by the past grands or former heads of the subordinate lodges of Iowa for Mr. Stevenson, at present deputy grand master. He had no opposition for the position, the custom of advancing the grand warden and deputy grand master being followed in this election as in previous ballotings.
Cutting Made Deputy.
Grand Warden F. W. Cutting of Decorah was made deputy grand master and H. F. Wagner of Sigourney grand warden. Mr. Wagner was the winner in a field of ten candidates. The others who contested for the position are J. W. Marshall of Storm Lake, E. V. Harper of Montezuma, W. G. Romer of Lyons, William Brown of Dubuque, F. M. Harvey of Anamosa, W. W. Brunton of Boone, J. T. Temple of Davenport, W. C. Kummer of Keokuk and H. C. Ligget of Hampton. A. F. Hindorff of Newton was re-elected grand treasurer and D. B. Gunn made grand representative to the national meeting. J. F. McGinty of Knowlton, was elected grand patriarch, or the head officer of the grand encampment of Iowa. At present he is grand high priest. He will take his position October 1 at the grand encampment meeting at Council Bluffs. The present grand patriarch is H. C. Chapin of Union. Grand Senior Warden E. E. Lambert of Newton was made grand high priest Grand Junior Warden Z. A. Church of Jefferson being advanced to the grand senior warden's chair. George P. Campbell of Davis City was elected grand junior warden, the position being sought by seven candidates. Others in the race were Thos. McMillen of Council Bluffs, F. L. Egelhof of Dubuque, W. S. Shepp of Mount Pleasant, G. R. Ahrens of Belle Plaine, G. S. Dunn of Sioux City and G. L. Arrasmith of Bayard. Jacob Archer of Marion was re-elected grand treasurer, winning over F. F. Wunder of Harlan. Louis Silberstein of Creston was made grand representative. Approximately 850 ballots were cast by the past chief patriarchs of the different encampments over the state. The voting took place on the first meeting night in June, Secretary Tilton receiving the reports from the different subordinate lodges and encampments and totaling the figures. The grand encampment session opens in Council Bluffs on Monday, October 16, being followed by the grand lodge session which closes on Friday, October 20.
