Full Text

NEWPORT, June 23.

At the yearly-meeting of Friends, lately held in this town, a subscription was opened, for the relief of the necessitous poor (who it appears are suffering, in consequence of the uncommon scarcity of the necessaries of life) in England and Ireland, the proceeds of which were to be transmitted to the meeting for sufferings in London, to be disposed of as they shall direct. Near 3000 dollars were subscribed in a few days. From the philanthropy and liberality of Friends, upon such affecting occasions, it is thought a much larger sum will be subscribed in this and the adjacent New-England States.
