GEORGE NICHOLS RESIGNS
AS DIRECTOR OF DIV.
OF STATE PLANNING

JUNEAU (AP) - Resignation of George W. Nichols as Director, Division of State Planning, was announced yesterday morning by Gov. Wm. Egan.

Nichols asked in his letter of resignation written to the governor June 1 that his resignation be effective June 22.

Nichols recalled in his letter that he had told Egan two years ago of his desire to return to the State of Washington.

Egan replied recognizing that he had known for some time of Nichol's plans, said "your contribution to the State of Alaska during these formative years has resulted in high regard and esteem of your ability from all members of Alaska's legislature on both sides of the political aisle."

"You have also earned the respect and admiration of all of your colleagues in the executive branch of Alaska's state government," Egan said.

Nichols said that he planned to go to Seattle for employment with R. W. Beck & Associates. He will be a supervisory analyst for the utility firm which has done considerable work in Alaska in the Anchorage and Fairbanks areas.
