Full Text

ALGIERS, Jan. 3.

On the 4th of last Month came into this Harbour the Novo Man of War, which had been sent on a Cruize jointly with the Capitana.

As we were greatly surprized to see her return alone, the Commander made a Report to the Government, that he had left the Capitana engaged with two Spanish Men of War off Cape St. Vincent: that the Spaniards having the Weather gage of him, rendered his Efforts to succour her in vain. This was contradicted by all the Ship's Company, who deposed, that the Capitana's being left in such Distress, was entirely owing to the Cowardice of the Commander and some of the other Officers, upon which the Dey Ordered the Commander, the second Captain, and the master Gunner, to be immediately strangled.
