Full Text

THE FIGHT FOR THE AMERICAN.

There is yet no solution to the struggle for the possession of the American newspaper. Chancellor Merritt a few days ago confirmed his former order directing the clerk and master to issue to Vertrees a power of attorney to vote and control the stock—a majority—deposited in his office by Colyar. This is regarded by Vertrees and his friends as a great triumph. Colyar asserts that Vertrees has not even approached his outworks, while the latter claims that he has overcome the most formidable of his defenses and will soon be in possession of the citadel. If the chancery suit ever comes to an end we shall see who is right.
