The Mormon Affair Contradicted.

The Washington papers of Tuesday publish a card from John M. Bernhisel, a delegate from Oregon, in which he positively contradicts the rumor brought by the steamer Prometheus, from Oregon, that the Mormons had issued a declaration of independence, and set at nought the powers of the general government. He also asserts that the story of their arming themselves and declaring their territory to be an independent republic, is a sheer fabrication, and has gained circulation from the misunderstanding growing out of the difficulty with the Government affairs last fall.
