Census of Children.—The Grass Valley National makes up the following from Superintendent Sweitzer's report:

There are in this State 90,409 white children between the ages of 5 and 15 years. This is 9,084 more than in 1866. There are 907 colored children between the same ages, being 65 more than last year. There are 1,234 Indian children between the same ages, living under the guardianship of white persons, being 29 more than last year. Thus there is an increase of 10,497 children of the three races between those ages in this State. Of children under 5 years of age the numbers and increase are as follows: White, 54,318, increase, 2,657; negro, decrease, 80; Indian 578, increase, 151. Thus the total increase of children under 15 years of age in California during the past year has been 12,789.
