DR. MORDECAI JOHNSON SON GIVES TENN. STATE GRADUATES

NASHVILLE Aug. 24 (ANP)-

Five victories to be won to insure a successful life were outlined to 154 summer graduates at Tennessee State college by Dr. Mordecai Johnson, president, Howard university last week.

The speaker designated economic security, successful marriage, education of children, creative use of leisure time and identification with a great cause as the five greatest victories to be achieved.

As tragedies in modern life he listed the sons and daughters of successful parents who have failed to develop into competent and self-reliant adults. "A new tragedy springing up," he asserted, "is the improper use of leisure time which is developing many intelligent people into passive instead of creative individuals."

Included among the candidates for degrees were 24 who were awarded master's degrees. This is the largest amount of advanced degrees to be given by the institution since first granting them five years ago. Candidates were presented by Dean G. W. Gore Jr. President Walter S. Davis conferred degrees.
