Three autoists from Glenwood, D.D. Stoffle, E.E. Edgerton and Gus Verdick had a narrow escape from drowning last Saturday evening while on their way to lower White river. Their Oakland-6 went off the road at the McDowell ranch, just below Ryan Thomas' place, and went into the river. Mr. Stoffle managed to jump from the machine before reaching the roaring water, but the other two gentlemen were not so fortunate. Both went into the water with the auto and one of them came near being trapped on the inside, but the car turned and he climbed out. None of them could swim and they held on to friendly rocks and trees till neighboring help could be obtained, and they were finally rescued.

On Sunday an attempt was made to get the car out of the river, as it had not gone very far, but something snapped when they started to pull it in with a rope and the machine got into the current and away it went towards Utah. The on-lookers say that it was badly smashed up bounding on the rock bars before it disappeared from view a hundred or so rods below. Not much hope is entertained for its recovery.

The cause of the accident is said to have been a small rock in the road striking one of the front wheels deflecting the car to the river, but the general belief is that the driver strained the speed limit beyond good judgment.
