Full Text

Among the resolutions of the last Georgia
democratic convention, we find the following:

Resolved, That we sympathise with the
friends of the slavery cause in Kansas, in their man-
ly efforts to maintain their rights and the rights and
interests of the Southern people, and that we re-
joice at their recent victories over the paid adven-
turers and jesuitical hordes of Northern abolition-
ism.

Now, will some one of the anti-American organs
explain how it was that the word "jesuitical" found
a place in the above resolution? Jesuitical is an
adjective, from the noun Jesuit, which signifies a
member of the Society of Jesus, a religious order
peculiar to the Catholic Church. Did the Georgia
anti-proscriptive, democratic Convention mean to
insinuate that there is any portion of the Catholic
Church so noted for cunning and treachery that
their name is proverbial and may be used to illus-
trate the villianous character of "northern aboli-
tionism."
