WHO CAN DO IT?
Hilltop Restaurant One of
Chardon's Newest Businesses
One of the newest businesses
in Chardon is the Hilltop
Restaurant located on Water
street near the Geauga Theatre.
While the Hilltop has been
in business several years, the
new owners, Mr. and Mrs.
William "Bill" Brown, have
only operated it since the
first of February this year.
Since taking over they have
remodelled the dining room
and expanded the seating capacity
to 66 - almost making
it into a completely new business.
"Bill", the blonde, curly
headed proprietor, was born
in Cleveland in 1930 and attended
Cleveland schools until
he joined the army when
he was 16. He was called
back into service for the Korean
conflict and spent six
unhappy months as an M.P.
in Korea. His total service in
the army comes to five years,
five months and five days.
He worked at motor repair
in the army and naturally
gravitated to a job driving
truck in civilian life. Hauling
on construction projects he
became interested and went
into construction work.
The restaurant is open
from six in the morning until
ten o'clock at night every day
except Saturday and Sunday
when they close at eight o'clock.
The soup, Chili and pie are
homemade. There is always
a special meal at 85 to 95
cents. The most expensive
complete dinner is less than
$2.
Mr. Brown's family moved
out to the Chardon area
where he met Faye Sampson,
who has lived all her
life in Chardon. They were
married on May 15, 1953.
They have two children - Marcie,
who was six in January
and Charles, who was
four last March.
