ALEXANDRIA, April 30.

COMMUNICATION.

Fauquier brought to reason.

It must be gratifying to the spirit of the times, to hear that republicanism is gaining ground; that the respectable yeomanry of our country in "times that try men's souls" are ready to rally around and assist the general government in supporting our rights, to realize professional patriotism and blast the audacious hopes of an affronting savage foe. Although in this scene of struggle for exemption from the slavery of the British yoke there are some amongst us who seem to be "discouraging working not at all, but are busy body dies," yet our prospects are brightening and we have great reason to hope that the great body of the people will remain firm and "be not weary in well doing." The popularity of doctor Hawes, goes with his merits. He is re-elected for congress with the highest credit; for no one thought proper to shew himself as an opponent in Culpeper or Fauquier. Great exertions were made by the anti party to keep in favor with the people, but to no purpose, for they frowned with indignation on the opponents of government. John Love in answering an elaborate speech delivered by John Scott, done himself and the republican cause great credit. The votes given stand.

For Major Th. Hunter 350
Wm. Skinker, Esq. 337
