The New York democratic convention held in Syracuse last week for the election of delegates to the Cincinnati convention was a double-barreled concern, and the result is the election of two sets of delegates-one pledged and instructed for Tilden, and the other pledged and instructed against him. The Tilden convention seems to have been regular, and the delegates chosen by it will undoubtedly be recognized as such at Cincinnati. There was much bitterness displayed in the rival conventions towards each other and it would appear to be impossible to harmonize the differences unless Tilden shall withdraw his name as a candidate, which his friends say he shall not do confronted by the threats of a pack of bolters led by John Kelly. Tilden is to be admired for his independence and pluck, to say the least, if this is his position, for he would be universally despised were he to turn and run under such circumstances. He will probably be all the more determined to win the prize he is seeking, but we do not believe he will succeed. The danger of his losing New York, if nominated, will determine the question against him, for without New York the democrats know they do not stand the ghost of a chance to carry the election.
