Full Text

MISSOURI.

We this day publish the important and lucid report of the committee on the Missouri constitution. If there ever was a document conclusive to dispassionate minds this is the one. The committee recommended the adoption of the constitution, leaving any section of doubtful meaning to be expounded by the judiciary, the proper branch of government to pronounce upon the constitutionality of the laws. If the judiciary of the United States shall decide that any section of the Missouri constitution be at variance with the laws and constitution of the country, it becomes extra-judicial, erroneous and void, and falls to the ground of itself. Thus terminates this question, we hope, without farther excitement, and without any assumption of power on the part of congress.--N. Y. Adv.
