A respectable mechanic in New York lately applied to the Police to have his daughter, 16 years of age, placed in the Penitentiary, because of her dissolute life, she was pretty, and of innocent appearance. She seemed greatly distressed, when confronted with her father she exclaimed that her married sister had led her to ruin: she was sent to the House of Refuge. The married sister was also brought up on complaint of her husband, but appeared brazen to the last. There was no proof against her; she refused to go with her husband, and went towards the Five-Points.
