Entire Bush Terminal in Brooklyn Has Narrow Escape From Destruction.
NEW YORK, April 19. - Bush terminal in Brooklyn, one of the largest steamship terminals in the world, was saved from destruction today when a spectacular fire practically destroyed the Norwegian steamship Hallfried, which was berthed at one pier of the terminal. Explosions in 2500 tons of nitrate in the vessel's hold led to fears of a conflagration along the water front.
Two piers were damaged. A few firemen were overcome and several terminal employes were removed to hospitals slightly injured. Thousands of men and women employed at the pier were driven away by smoke, which could be seen miles away.
