All-Time Minnesota Record Established

Gophers Have Won 265 Games,
Lost 86 and Tied 25,
Record Shows

Minneapolis, Sept. 28. -Two hundred and sixty-five games won to only 86 lost and 25 tied is the record Minnesota's galloping Gophers have rolled up during 52 years of gridiron history, figures compiled by Frank G. McCormick, university athletic director show.

In Big Ten competition, Minnesota elevens have chalked up 99 wins while losing 61 and tying 14, out-scoring their opponents, 2,791 points to 1,463 in their 46 years of membership in the Western conference.

First Game in 1882

Although the Gophers played their first game with a team from Hamline University of St. Paul in 1882, the developing of the outstanding Minnesota record really begins with the regime of Dr. H. L. Williams in 1900.

The 22 years that followed found the Gophers winning seven conference championships under the "father of Minnesota football," giving Dr. Williams an all-time record of 134 victories, 33 defeats and nine tie games.

Wisconsin First Rival

Wisconsin was Minnesota's first rival among the teams that now compose the Big Ten and the rivalry with the Badgers has continued with but a single season's interruption. Teams of the two universities will meet for the forty-sixth time this fall. This year's meeting with Iowa will be the thirtieth and that with Michigan the twenty-fifth.

The Gophers best conference record is against Iowa, whom they have lost to only eight times while winning 21 games, while their nemesis seems to be Michigan, which has chalked up 18 wins to Minnesota's six.
