F. A. SMITH'S NEW BOAT
Taken to Smyrna Landing Friday and Will Be Launched This Week
Francis A. Smith, a Smyrna jeweler, whose hobby, among other things, runs to building boats and taking out fishing parties, has about finished his new boat which was built in the yard back of Walter O. Hoffecker's residence. The boat was moved last Friday by Horace David's truck to Smyrna Landing and the moving of this craft, the largest Mr. Smith has ever built, attracted considerable attention. Finishing work on the rail, floors and cabin, were done this week and Mr. Smith hopes to launch it to-morrow or next day and take it to Little Creek. The boat has its license papers and will be christened the "Bessie E" in honor of his daughter, Mrs. George Terrell. The boat measures 39 ft. 10 inches, beam 11 ft. 3 inches, having a capacity of nine tons. A cabin with all modern conveniences has been built to hold 25 or 35 people. The boat is equipped with a Super-Six eighty horse power motor. Mr. Smith, a genius in most anything in the mechanical line, built it without blue prints and has turned out a sturdy craft, well-built and with graceful lines. So seaworthy does he expect his craft to be that he already contemplates taking a trip to Florida in her with his family next winter.
