A. C. H. Smith, First Judge of Herkimer co. was on Tuesday last indicted and arrested for forgery, committed several years ago. He charged the grand jury on Monday, and the first bill found was against himself. He was arrested in court, twenty-four hours after his charge. He gave bail and has absconded. He received his appointment under Gov. Seward. The forgery consisted in executing a bond and mortgage to himself for $1000, in the name of Henry Boyer, of Manheim, with certificates of acknowledgement and record.—This forged security was sold to a Miss Tallman, of Fairfield, and the interest being paid on it regularly by Smith, under pretence that the money came from Boyer, the fraud was concealed from 1833 down to this time,—Albany Argus.
