WGN-TV SIGNS TELEVISION
NETWORK PROGRAMMING
FOR CHICAGO

More television history was
made when WGN-TV signed
an agreement with the DuMont
Television Network to be
the exclusive Chicago outlet
for network originated programs.
WGN-TV is owned by WGN,
Inc., a subsidiary corporation
of The Chicago Tribune.

This will give Chicago viewers
the first regular coast-to-coast
network programming in this
area.

In a joint announcement it
was stated that WGN-TV
began network operations
with the "Original Amateur
Hour," beginning September
26. This is a full hour program,
from 7 to 8 p.m., and is New
York's top rated television
program. Outstanding sustaining
and commercial programs
originated by the DuMont
Network will be available
to WGN-TV immediately.
Until station connections
from East to West become
operative, Dumont's programs
will mainly be available to
WGN-TV by tele-transcriptions,
an exclusive double system
process of reproducing shows
off the cathode ray tube
developed by the Allen B.
DuMont Laboratories.
