Make Raid in L. A. Under New Narcotic Law

By United Press Leased Wire

LOS ANGELES, July 24.-Acting on a tip given by Councilman Robert M. Allan, who charged in the city council that vice was running openly in Los Angeles, a police vice squad today raided an address given by Allan.

Breaking down the doors of a downtown establishment, the police found an opium smoking party in progress, with white and negro men and women participating. While the raiding party was forcing an entrance many of the occupants made their escape by way of the roof and secret passages.

Police arrested Ed Pallard, charged with violation of the state poison act which became effective at midnight, making the possession of narcotics a felony, and Bruce Robertson, charged with possession of lottery tickets.

A quantity of opium, pipes and paraphernalia and lottery tickets were seized by the police.
