The "cheekiest" thing out is a recent attempt of the Pioneer man to borrow our Democratic rooster to crow over a Republican victory. When we go into that kind of business, we will buy a gross of cuts for the benefit of the Republicans.

W. H. Phelps stands like a lone, bright star, when all else is dark and cloudy.

The storm flag was up on Sunday last for the first time this season, at this port.

The high winds Sunday broke the ice up in the river above the bridge.

The steamer Dunlap arrived Sunday, and need we say that our citizens feel thankful that this staunch craft has again commenced her duties as mail carrier?

Phil. O'Farrell, who graduated at the last term of the Michigan University, has been admitted to practice, and now occupies an office over Warner, Purdy & Co's store, "Attorney at Law."

The large glass for J. T. Bostwick's store windows arrived on the St. Joseph, and are now in their places. There are three glass 6x12 feet each, and two 2x12 feet each.

The entertainments at Beebe's Hall, last Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, were in every way worthy of the great success with which they were favored. The performance was good, and each one did his or her part nobly.

What a nice thing it is for two or three hundred men to jump on board a boat before she is fairly tied to the dock, and then with a peculiar inquisitive expression upon their countenances, all start up one flight of stairs, through the dining room, into the cabin, and then down the other stairway. Strangers are very apt to think on such occasions, "wonder if they ever saw a boat before?"

The painters are brushing things right lively in Bostwick's new drug store.

ROOT BEER.—H. L. Gladwin, formerly in the root beer business in the Saginaw Valley, has started a manufactory in this city, and during the warm season, will furnish this cooling beverage to our citizens at low rates. We have tried it, and can recommend "Gladwin's Root Beer" to all our readers who would like a cool and healthy drink during the summer season.
