THE N. C. DELEGATION.

The delegation in the Baltimore Convention from North Carolina consisted of 19 gentlemen—only one absent, Mr Farmer, of the Mountain District. On Friday evening, the following withdrew from the old Convention: Bedford Brown, W S Ashe, Wm Lander, W W Avery, John Walker, T J Green, Columbus Mills, R R Bridgers, W A Moore, C H Foster, Saml Hargrove, James Fulton, and L W Humphrey. On Saturday morning Saml P Hill addressed the Convention and formally withdrew from it, and was followed by W L Steele and J W B Watson, though we believe neither of these two gentlemen made any remarks to the Convention on leaving or discontinuing their action with it. Mr W W Holden did not withdraw, but ceased to act with the Douglas Convention. Mr Patterson, of the 6th District, had returned home before the withdrawals took place. Mr Robt P Dick, of the Greensboro District, remained in the old Convention and acted with it to the last, voting for the nomination of Mr Douglas.

Those who participated in the Convention that nominated Breckinridge and Lane were Messrs Brown, Ashe, Avery, Lander, Walker, Green, Mills, Bridgers, Moore, Foster, Hargrove, Fulton, Humphrey, Steele and Hill. Messrs Holden and Watson did not act with the Convention, though the latter gentleman approved its action and has declared his intention to support Breckinridge and Lane.

We think we have correctly stated the position of the N. C. Delegation. If we have not, we stand ready for correction.

It will be seen that the delegation was almost a unit in their action. That each member felt the great responsibility resting upon him, and after mature consideration acted in accordance with his own judgment, we have not the least doubt. Neither do we entertain the least doubt but that those gentlemen who withdrew and assisted in the nomination of those eminent statesmen, Breckinridge and Lane, will have the endorsement and commendation of the people of North Carolina. They were sent to Baltimore to exercise their own judgment and to do the best they could for the party and for the rights of their section. They did so—they acted rightly—and we hope the democratic party of the State will approve their conduct. Certainly no true democrat can find fault with Breckinridge and Lane—the former having already been endorsed at the ballot box by a large majority of the democratic party.
