This Obelisk is to be in the Form of a Ray of the Sun, the Egyptians dedicating to that Luminary these Sort of Monuments, in Token of some great Action, or some extraordinary Cure; and under this Shape, instead of a Statue, the Phœnicians worshipped the Sun; the Græcians following the same Example, paid their Adorations to Venus at Paphos, Jupiter Melichius at Corinth, and divers others of the Idols under the same Figure; by which you see the Bath will soon shew an exact Pattern of one of the most eminent Monuments of Antiquity.
