Monsieur la Mothe Picquet sailed from Brest on the 8th instant, with two ships of 84 guns, two of 74 guns, one of 60 guns, four frigates, about twenty merchant ships, and about 2500 French troops, under the command of the Marquis de la Fayette, all for Rhode Island.

Mr. John Adams, and other Americans who were in France, are gone on board the fleet.

At the same time sailed from Brest seven more Ships of the line, who are to see this fleet safe to a certain latitude, and then to return.

Twenty five more ships of the line are now lying at single anchor, in Brest water, ready to put to sea on a moment's notice.
