SEATTLE (PI)—Some 8,000 aliens in five northwest states and Alaska are required to report their addresses to the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service in January, District Immigration Director John P. Boyd said today.
Boyd said registration cards are available at post offices and immigration stations. They should be filled out by the alien, he said, and handed to a clerk. The cards may not be mailed.
Boyd said every non-citizen, except persons in diplomatic status and foreign representatives assigned to the United Nations, are required to register. Wilful violation of the law may result in fines, imprisonment or deportation, said Boyd.
