In a letter to this newspaper Reginald Harris, 775 Marshall Av. set forth issues involved in the present public housing program in St. Paul He wrote: The current controversy over locations for Public Housing is quietly, but surely, assuming an unwanted orphan status.

The raucous, intolerant voices of the "We don't want 'em in our neighborhood" crowd are heard in every community in our city. It is comforting to note that of all the separate neighborhoods which have appeared before the city council to protest certain recommendations of the Housing Authority and City Planning Board only one group has had enough human decency and far-sighted courage to place before the Council a humanitarian solution to the problem. So it was that on Tuesday, September 6th, a group headed by Mrs. Alice Onque and representing home owners and residents from the Dale-Selby-Lexington area, appearing before the City Council, rejected certain sites for public housing and approved some others. This group was able to put forward an intelligent planned proposal because they were the approved representatives of a mass meeting on the subject of public housing held only one day previous—Sunday, September 4th at Pilgrim Baptist Church

This group, which is comprised of the old Community Council of some of the splendid fighters (Maxfield School) has adopted a program of action with which the City Planning Board and Housing Authority can advisedly co-operate.

They advocate continued support of Public Housing and call for an even greater degree of co-operation between community groups and the public agencies responsible for its transmission. This—to quote the television's well-known parrot, riding luxuriously on a well-known airliner,—"is the only way" to plan.—Reginald Harris, 775 Marshall Av., St. Paul.
