Anglo-Turkish Treaty Is Not Out, However
Nazis Are Successful In Completing Pact With Ankara; Von Papen Secures Signature
ANKARA, June 18.-(UP) - Turkey and Germany, it is said in reliable quarters here, have concluded an agreement believed to be a non-aggression or a neutrality pact.
It was understood that the pact carries a special clause which provides that it does not in any way affect existing diplomatic arrangements.
This escape clause is said to cover the Anglo-Turkish alliance.
Foreign Minister Sukru Saracoglu conferred with the German ambassador, Franz von Papen, today and then summoned the central committee of the people's government party for a special meeting later.
It is expected an official announcement of the agreement may come from this meeting.
LONDON, June 18-(UP) - Turkish sources reported today that the German-Turkish non-aggression pact has been initialed but not yet finally signed.
It was understood that the agreement provides an escape clause under which Turkey continues to abide by her obligations under the Anglo-Turkish alliance.
The agreement was said to have been reached at the initiative of Franz von Papen, German ambassador to Turkey, who has been working for many weeks to arrive at a basis of agreement with the Turks.
