"In the Postscript of your last Letter to me, you ask me, What doth the News-Papers mean by a French Priest at Halifax, with a 100l. per Annum? In Answer to which I would inform you, that this was a French Priest which died some Years ago; and the Indians of the St. John's Tribe being desirous of one of that Profession, apply'd to Government, and they have granted them a Popish Priest with the Salary of 100l. a Year. He does not reside at Halifax, but chiefly at the River St. John's; he is here sometimes and I suppose our Catholics are glad to see him. The M--n--t--y. at Home I suppose have not so bad an Opinion of that infamous Religion as you and I have."
