Jury Renders Verdict in the Case of Agatha Barton--Out Less Than Two Hours.
The jury in the Barton murder case brought in a verdict of not guilty at 7 o'clock Thursday evening, after remaining out but one hour and forty minutes.
As soon as it was known that a verdict had been reached the court room rapidly filled with spectators, eager to hear the report. When the verdict was read a great many in the audience applauded vigorously, until stopped by Judge Stotts, who said if it were repeated he would find every offender for contempt of court.
The verdict was no surprise to the people who would have been badly disappointed had any other verdict than acquittal been brought in.-Sheridan Post.
Agatha Barton was a school teacher at Arvada, who was deserted by her husband shortly after their marriage. Her father in law, the postmaster there, is said to have made slurring remarks concerning her after his son's disappearance. Mrs. Barton hearing of the slander entered the postoffice where the elder Barton was and shot him with a small revolver.
The defense was insanity.
