A GREAT CASE OF CONQUEST.—We had great faith in the Mathews Light Guards, and prophesied a conquest before their return from the Springs. We were not mistaken. The following telegram, received by the officer in command while the boys were en route home on Wednesday, will explain itself:

Oakland, Md., August 22, 1877.

Officers in Command Mathews Light Guards:

The ladies of Oakland Hotel regret very much that you did not stop, and are not going to return, and are still waiting on the platform for another wave of your handkerchiefs. Tears flowing freely.

Love of all. Dancing every night. Gentlemen very few, but plenty of ladies.
