Shocking Effects of Intemperance.----We learn that, at an early hour of the night before last, a woman named Mary White, was taken up in the street, much intoxicated, and put into the back room of the Belvidere Watch House. Yesterday morning, at the time of releasing the prisoners, one of the officers remarked that a woman who had been put in, had not been taken out, and on examination found a lifeless body. It appeared that she had tied her handkerchief to one of the window-bars, of the window, and fastened her garter so as to form a loop, upon which she had hanged herself. The deceased left 9 children, who, unlike their wretched mother, are all well behaved, and placed in good employment.---N. Y. paper.
