Let Home Money Work at Home.
Speaking of a "foreign" corporation doing a large business in this community, a Columbia business man said the other day:
"And another thing can be said for it, it buys its supplies in Columbia, it patronizes Columbia's business houses, which is more than can be said of Columbia's own financial and business institutions. I know for a fact that this concern declined to buy from the representative of a large Eastern house, saying that it would buy in Columbia so long as quality and price could be approximated here and this would be its fixed policy."
That, of course, is a sound business policy. Business reciprocity is business sense. It should not be necessary for an outside corporation to point the way for Columbia business houses or Columbia citizens. To support home interests is, in the case of Columbians, to strengthen themselves; to take away from the earnings of Columbia business houses by declining to patronize them cuts down their buying capacity and their employing capacity, and therefore hurts the whole community.
Money kept at home makes more money; that sent away is lost forever from the local "working capital."
And what is said of Columbia, may be applied with equal point to South Carolina. The State.
